What you should know about LED lighting?
15th Oct 2019
As advancements continues for LED technology , its lighting will grow in popularity into homes and offices, thanks to the lower energy consumption and price. With time these lights have managed to overpower incandescent bulbs and CFLs with their eco-friendly approach.
What is LED lighting?
LED lights—or Light Emitting Diodes—are innovative light sources that use electronic components called diodes to produce light directly. Other bulbs use heat to create light indirectly – consuming relatively more energy. The use of diodes makes it a more environmentally sound light source.
Advancements in LED technology have given several lighting options – the new luxury LED lights add the hint of elegance and charm any space requires. From restaurants and malls to homes, and offices – LED lights have touched every aspect of lighting need. Some popular designs include :
- Pendant designs
- Floor and table lamps
- Wall and ceiling lamps
- Recessed lamps
Other lights come in an array of shapes and sizes – all these are innovations and crafts of modern designers who know which lights are suitable the contemporary spaces.
Can you use LED lights in any lamps or fixtures?
Yes, LED lights can be used in different lamps. You can opt for a brighter, modern lamp over the usual yellowish warm light. But not all lighting fixtures can use LED lights because of the heat entrapment – be mindful of your LED purchases for fixtures. However, make sure that your chosen lights are compatible with your lighting fixtures —otherwise, their lifespan will be short, making your investment not very valuable.
How do LED lights work?
Light is produced using a semiconductor through a process known as electroluminescence. The energy band gap of this semiconductor determines the color emitted by the light.
How long do these lights last?
The lifespan of these lights is more than 25,000 hours for a bulb, 50,000 for a tube, and 50,000-100,000 hours for integral LED fixtures, as opposed to the 1,000-hour lifespan of a traditional incandescent bulb.
These bulbs are more expensive than traditional ones. However, modern advancements have ensured that their prices go down. Also, the electricity used over a lifetime of a single incandescent bulb costs 5 to 10 times more than the original price of the bulb itself, probably 20 times or more in a state with expensive electricity, such as New York. These lights use 84% less energy and last 25x times longer than traditional bulbs.
What are the benefits of LED lights?
- You can choose any color compatible with the theme of the room! Since they are not naturally white light sources, they emit monochromatic light. Recent innovations in its technology have made it easier to achieve a desirable “golden glow” that mimics an incandescent bulb. And, they are easily found in any color that you or your interior designer prefer.
- You can set different moods in the same room by using dimmable LEDs.
- They consume up to 90% less energy than traditional lights
- They are safer and reduce the risk of burns.
- Easier to install and sturdier, thanks to the epoxy lenses.
- Ideal for both industrial and commercial uses.
- It is lightweight and small in size.
Needless to say, LED is the way to go nowadays. Their countless benefits, energy-saving capabilities, and availability in different designs have made them a popular lighting choice.
