Being an Italian brand, we associate the kitchen with happiness. It's the place where delicious Thanksgiving meals are cooked. It's the place that smells of pancakes and coffee on a Sunday morning. It's the place where mothers help their kids bake their first cake. It's the place the entire family gathers around after a long, hard day to eat a well-deserved meal together.
When it comes to furnishing your kitchen, it goes without saying the types of kitchen lighting options are the same as any other room and include:
How many lights you need in your kitchen depends on its size, layout, and look. You can use a combination of lights to create kitchen spaces that range from cozy to classy.
Here are six FLOS lamps that will transform the way your kitchen looks:
1. Fucsia 1 by Achille Castiglioni (image above)
Named after a similarly shaped flower, this conical-shaped pendant fixture will provide both diffused and direct light and is perfect for hanging over your dining table or kitchen island. The sanded edge at the bottom of each cone reduces the glare and is protected with a silicone ring. The Fucsia pendant light is also available in configurations of 3, 8, and 12.
2. Long & Hard by Philippe Starck
The suspension lamp, with a rather quirky name, providing direct light, is perfect for installing over your kitchen countertop or even the dining area. It can be installed in single or multiple units, depending on the lighting output you desire.
3. Ktribe S by Philippe Starck
This seemingly simple design is the result of a playful idea that a previous lamp he designed (Miss K) procreated and produced an off-spring called "Ktribe". The Ktribe pendant lights provide diffused lighting, which is just what you need to give your dining space an edge. The opal white finish of the light will transfix your guests and keep them coming back for more. The inner diffuser becomes visible when the light is turned on and becomes invisible when the fixture is off. The series is available as floor and table lamps and comes with 5 different finishes for the diffuser.
4. Splügen Bräu; by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni
Castiglioni originally designed this light and a beer glass for a beer house by the same name in Milan. The beer house is no longer in existence, but you can have a piece of design history by hanging the Splügen Bräu; over your dining table, kitchen island, or minibar. The fixture provides direct light which can be dimmed to suit the mood.
5. Romeo Moon S by Philippe Starck
Bring some romance into your dining space with this pendant fixture made of glass. The extremely detailed diffuser is made with high-technology. The simple design by Philippe Starck is reduced to the basic elements and meant to evoke to the very pre-historic gesture of using our own palms to shade ourselves from the sun. The fixture provides diffused light and works well against both simple and lavish backdrops.
6. Smithfield C by Jasper Morrison
The simplicity of this lamp is what takes you in. The designer is
clear that his inspiration came from an industrial and functional
lighting he once saw at the Smithfield meat market in England. This
charmingly simple light fixture will turn your dining space into an
unpretentious and welcoming space. Also available as a pendant lamp.
